Wow! I can't believe it has been a full year since I have started this site/blog! Thank you to all who have viewed it and have sent it on to others.
It's always been my goal to not only post things for art enthusiasts alike, but also to spread the word about local visual art events to my fellow friends who may not be familiar with the wonderful galleries, collectives, and events Atlanta has to offer. I'm a firm believer that art should be for all and it is my pleasure to inform you about it!
Some exciting news about MINT Gallery! We are now open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 12-5pm and other days by appointment.
Please note that our new address is: 145B Sampson Street
Atlanta, GA 30312
This Saturday, Jan. 8th, will be our first show of the new year! "Astropop," features art by Jon Adelung. Here is some info about Jon:
"Jon Adelung, born in El Paso Texas in 1979, is inspired by the wonders of the never-ending universe of cartoons, science fiction and movies. Much of his inspiration comes from old cartoon pop artists Peter Max and Heinz Edelman. He is also influenced by artists such as Bob Ross, Andy Warhol, and Jean- Michele Basquiat. AstroPop is the culmination of years of constant painting, drawing and creating a world that is vast and full of life.
Jon's work has been exhibited at the Bridge Center of Contemporary Art, Lola Art Gallery, The Hive Gallery and more. His work was also featured in Zombieland, a film shot in and around Atlanta."
So come on out!

Our 5th Annual PinUp Postcard show will be at our brand new space!
MINT’s 5th Annual Postcard Pinup Show, a non-curated show open to all artists, takes place Friday, December 3rd at the MINT Gallery in the Virginia Cotton Dock Lofts. The exhibition will be from 8-11 p.m. and is free and open to the public. This event is a great, low pressure way to get artwork in front of the MINT staff.
"The main purpose of this event is to allow each participant a chance to share their creative output with a l...arge audience as well as the opportunity to network with a variety of individuals. It will also allow buyers the chance to purchase art at a very reasonable price.
The secondary purpose is to raise funds for MINT, a 501(c)3 non-profit, volunteer run arts organization dedicated to cultivating a stronger creative community in Atlanta and throughout Georgia. Our goal is to provide exhibition space, curatorial opportunities, workshops and classes, and other resources for artists of all skill levels and backgrounds. We also seek strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations and local businesses in order to broaden the developmental opportunities available to Atlanta creatives.
ARTISTS INFO: Artists must hand deliver their work to the MINT Gallery on Sunday, November 28th between 3 and 6pm, Wednesday, December 1st between 6 and 8 pm or on Friday, December 3rd between 1 and 3pm. Artists may submit up to 4 pieces but none may exceed 4” x 6” and they must be delivered unframed and unmatted. Artists can price their work individually or as a series to be sold as a set. However no individual piece may be priced over $50 and no series may be priced over $125. Artists must agree to donate 40%, 60% or 100% of the selling price to MINT. Those who chose to donate 100% will be recognized and honored at the show. Unsold artwork may be picked up on Sunday, December 5th between 3 and 6 p.m. The required application/release form is available at the drop off or via email from [email protected]
PATRON INFO: The event itself is free and open to the public. However, there will be raffle tickets for sale. Raffle prizes include gifts from a variety of local business sponsors who will be recognized at the show. Purchased artwork may be taken home Sunday, December 5th between the hours of 3 and 6pm. However, payment (in cash or check form) must be made during or immediately after the event."

Booleshit: A Collection of New York By Nikita Gale
Taken from the facebook event page:
BOOLESH1T is the first solo exhibition of Atlanta-based artist and photographer Nikita Gale.
The show is an exploration of the evolution of the relationship between humanity and technology. The work presented in this exhibition seeks to explore the inherently fleeting nature of being human and how human beings cope both physically and psychologically with the rapidly expanding influence and permanence of digital technology within modern human civilization. It’s an exploration of how the human mind negotiates the massive proliferation of information in a visually-driven, post-literate age.
The name for the show “BOOLESH1T” was inspired by George Boole, creator of Boolean arithmetic. Boolean arithmetic is a mathematical system which precipitated the development of Boolean logic, a system used in electronics that spawned the creation of virtually every digital device and website on the Internet. The Internet has gone from being a source of information and social interaction to becoming a source of, well, a lot of superfluous… “SH1T”.
BOOLESH1T is ultimately a visual investigation that seeks to answer questions like “How can we as human beings continue to lead meaningful, fulfilling existences in a world that is inevitably hurtling toward complete digital automation?”
“How has this overflow of information provided by the Internet affected the ways that we think and interact with others?”
”Are we becoming less compassionate?”
”Are we growing less aware of our physical selves and our surroundings?”
The gallery space will be transformed into an interactive physical and visual manifestation of the artist’s interpretation of the Internet. The show will feature traditional photographic prints as well as photo-based installations and mixed media works.

This Friday Night, August 27th
Dreamer Boy Dan @ MINT Gallery, Friday (Aug. 27th) 7PM to ?
MINT gallery 684 John Wesley Dobbs Atlanta, GA
Notes on the show:
Dreamer Boy Dan at Mint Gallery
Homegrown nightmares to haunt the Old 4th Ward
Dreamer Boy Dan is the collaborative work of poets, painters, and musicians from Atlanta, Savannah, and Brooklyn building a collective lucid dream. The project tells the tale of a character trapped in his imagination and explored through multiple mediums.
An exhibition of paintings and a live performance by the ten member band opens August 27th 7PM at A...tlanta's Mint Gallery.
In the spirit Grimm's Fairy Tales, insomnia, and the collective unconscious, Dreamer Boy Dan is a gothic fairy tale of contemporary nightmares.
Creators Nic*Rad and Brock Scott began working together while Rad attended the Savannah College of Art and Design, and Scott studied at SCAD Atlanta-- the duo enlisted ten eerily talented musicians to help complete the vision.
Nic*Rad is represented by Rare Gallery in New York City. His latest project "PeopleMatter" was profiled in Art in America, Wired Magazine, and The Awl, among others.
Brock Scott is an Atlanta resident and front man for the band Little Tybee. LT’s album, Building a Bomb, was released in 2009 and was met with rave reviews as well as features in Flagpole, Stomp and Stammer and American Songwriter Magazine. They are currently working on their second album, which is due out in mid November, and are planning a US tour for early 2011.
The show will be up through September 19. The team hopes to continue with the Dreamer Boy Dan series of nightmares until someone wakes them up.

Nevermind The Lines presented by DASHBOARD CO-OP
"In Georgia, art funding has all but disappeared from public schools. Dash know this cause our moms and friends work at schools and our nephew goes to school. So! We elicited the help of our fancy art pals, and just about everyone else in Atlanta, to color a page, or five, in a coloring book and put it up for auction.
I can’t begin to explain how interesting a dinosaur in a coloring book can become when folks forget the rules of scale, color and medium.
Artists like Michi, Sam Parker and the Paper Twins have all taken part.
Music by Joey Patino from the Sea Lions!
refreshments by PBR!
and Dancing by yours truly!
Proceeds will go to purchase crayons, glitter, paste and construction paper for 2 metro-area elementary schools.
Pieces will be framed, matted etc and will be for purchase, auction or raffle depending on well….what we feel it should be."

Gather Atlanta, Saturday, July 31st
http://gatheratlanta.com/
What is Gather Atlanta?
GATL is a coalition of young creative organizations (MINT Gallery, WonderRoot, BurnAway.org, and ThoughtMarker.net) that puts on an annual conference for emerging creative organizations.
The conference is based on a trade show model, with invited organizations hosting tables for with information, demonstrations, etc.
The event also includes a panel discussion organized by Jeremy Abernathy of BurnAway.org
I see that Gather Atlanta has mixers. What are those all about?
GATL mixers are small get togethers to perpetuate discussions between arts organizations year round. They also serve as opportunities for us to keep in touch with the community in order to better craft our annual event.
When is Gather Atlanta?
This year (2010), GATL takes place on July 31st at the Trees Atlanta building in Reynoldstown.
What are the benefits of participating in Gather Atlanta?
GATL provides a forum for emerging creative organizations to network with each other, present to the public, and be exposed to important members of the press and art communities. Last year representatives from Flux Projects, Atlanta Celebrates Photography, Creative Loafing, and many others came to the event.
How do I participate in Gather Atlanta?
The founders of GATL send out invitations to groups they deem appropriate. If you are part of a local creative organization and are interested in participating, please send an email with relevant information to [email protected]
What criteria does Gather Atlanta use to determine an organizations ability to participate?
Factors that are considered for organizations to participate include:
- commitment to Atlanta
- age of organization (ideal candidates <6 years, acceptable <12)
- non-profit status
- budget/funding sources
- arts programming
- need/impact potential of participating
Does it cost money to participate in Gather Atlanta?
No. The purpose of GATL is to unify the community of creatives in Atlanta and provide a forum for exposure at no cost to participants. However, GATL can use all the help it can get and would love any donations (money or in-kind) that you could offer.
I want to volunteer with Gather Atlanta, how can I get involved?
Contact [email protected] to state your interest in volunteering.

Living Walls The City Speaks Auction: MINT Gallery, Saturday, June 26th: 7pm
"The Living Walls Conference is in August as you all know. It has developed from a brain child into a full grown movement. Living Walls has caught the attention of people, publications and collectives across all oceans. Juxtapoz Magazine jumped on board before there was anything in existence but a paragraph about an idea – that might possibly change the face of street art in Atlanta – and planet Earth. Not too far after the French Consulate became involved, offering one of their finest street artists to the grassroots colloquium, however tis still a secret who.
As we all know hot dogs cost money. And if hot dogs cost money – then conferences that change the face of the earth surely do. Living Walls needs your support, emotionally and financially. This fundraiser will be at Mint Gallery on June 26th. That is a Saturday by the way, and will start at 7pm. Over 50 BADASS artists will be showcased and hey - it’s an auction. You might actually be able to afford to purchase something. Beer, Music, Pretty Girls, Pretty Boys and a promise of a rad time awaits you. Get on your horse!
Help your city grow with creative pulses – and for pete’s sake, support your local cooperatives and organizations!"

Raw and Fearsome implies big, loud, deadly, uncooked, rough and powerful. Fear is an essential part of the equation, but the mask is a ceremony of willingness, A physical Incantation that allows us to become our fear and let it pass through us but allows for the violence of a knowledge larger than ourselves.
[ARTIST ] Erin Bassett
Erin Bassett was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1983. Several thousand beers, cigarettes, and cups of coffee later, she joined the Plastic Aztecs in 2009. Togther they founded SuperFuturism, a movement dedicated to living in the present through the mind of the super future. Erin hopes to develop super-time consciousness powers and to proliferate the de-conception of time through exercises in simultaneous time-thought perspectives.

Blah Bleh Blehbitty Bleh
Updated blog with some show pics and other bits of info (3 new posts). I've completed as much painting as I think I am going to do for now and am going to revisit some ideas. That's the worst part for me! I just want to get in and start working! Hopefully, after a short vacation. Also going to start being involved in a drawing group with some other artists. Any movie watching? Not much, I did revisit some old De Niro movies (sigh...) Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Once Upon A Time in America (still working on this one), Cape Fear, and Heat, yes, I am a sucker for old Bobby, don't judge me!!!!!! I'm also really liking the "Morning Benders: Big Echo," album and am in the process of listening to the new She and Him.

Meh
Quick update, for the past month or so I have been working on a large series of small works. I am up to six completed pieces. I plan on finishing four more in the next week or so! This takes up most of my time! Late nights and bad habits unfortunately also make up my working process in my makeshift studio space/living room. It's getting a little cramped in here! I'll post pics of progress soon. I kind of want to have them completely finished to my satisfaction before I post complete images (who knows when that will be!!) Been listening to some Animal Collective, new Vampire Weekend, The Knife, Joanna Newsome, and REALLY digging the most recent Beach House and Spoon. Oh yeah and I'm so glad we decided to keep the Netflix on the 360, it probably stalls my progress but it keeps me occupied! What have I been watching while working? Just finished a really good PBS six part series on Auschwitz, re-visited some movies like Eraserhead, Delicatessen, Les Miserables, the Constant Gardener, Two Lovers, and lots of Liam Neeson and Gabriel Byrne!

New Pictures
I've added a few new pictures of my self portrait that was in the recent "Not You: Self Portrait Show," at the MINT Gallery. They are in the "Mixed Media," and "Shows/Galleries," sections. Also after many years of uploading pictures and writing in my blog, I am finally deleting my Myspace page! I am doing so because it has become such a cluster funk and I have not been keeping up with it! Please view my blog, as I update it frequently, and as always look me up on Twitter and Facebook if you have one. I am often tweeting about silly things, music, and art.
